Back in 2017 I wrote a blog post called “The Best Paved Trails in the World are in … Ohio“, which is all about the Miami Valley Trails network in Ohio.
Do I still back up that claim? Maybe.
The Miami Valley Trails network is located in the southeast corner of Ohio in the vicinity of Dayton. The network has over 350 miles of paved trails. 350 miles – all paved! The network has been in the works since 1961 when the Dayton Cycling Club was first formed and the co-founder, Horace Huffman, first started to propose paved trails in the region.
The 14 different trails all intersect and form various options for loop rides. The trails are generally flat, smooth, scenic, and well-maintained. On our 2019 skating and biking tour in the area with 39 alumni travelers, we heard comments from this experienced group that raved about these being the best-paved trails in the world.
Eight years later, do I still think Ohio has the best paved trail network in the world? There is no question the Little Miami Trails are the largest paved trail network in the United States. We do now have tours in Germany and in Iowa that rival the trails in Ohio. But I would say Ohio has, at minimum, one of the top three best paved trail networks in the world.
I’ll leave you with my personal impressions via the video below (from 2017) but please consider joining us September 17 – 21, 2026 for our next Ohio Skating & Biking Adventure!
