Hi, my name is Allan Wright. Welcome to the Travel Well with Allan video update. Today I’d like to talk to you about cruises. Yes, we don’t talk about cruises very often here at Zephyr Adventures and Taste Vacations because we run very small group tours around the world, not big, huge cruises.
However, recently MSC cruises, which is apparently one of the big operators, ran a ship in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Italy, and did it safely.
Now they did a number of novel things to keep people safe but the one I want to talk about is testing. They required everybody getting on board to be tested with a swab test for COVID-19 with immediate results and that apparently has kept people safe on the ship.
Now testing like that is something we’ve been talking about for months here at Zephyr Adventures and Taste Vacations because i believe that could be a game-changer for the travel industry. Imagine if airports around the world had that same testing in place you would feel safe flying and the places you wanted to visit would feel safe welcoming you.
Now that testing is not easy to do and MSC cruises probably has huge resources and was able to set up their own testing facilities on-site, not every place can do that but certainly, airports can do that with the support of governments and so I do think that that is a harbinger of what’s to come until we can actually wait and get a safe vaccine.
We here in the United States can’t travel with Italy and we can’t go on a cruise locally either. We have work to do but I do think that starting with finding plentiful, accurate testing that has immediate results would be a great step in the right direction.
