Everyone should see a major fireworks display every few years. They are impressive.
But for creating lasting memories – in both children and adults – festivities in small town America are the way to go for Fourth of July.
Zephyr’s home base of Red Lodge, Montana has a population of 2,300. It is situated next to Rock Creek, which comes down from the high plateaus and peaks of the Beartooth Mountains. It has one of the cutest main streets in America. But all this is even better during the Fourth of July.
During the holiday Red Lodge hosts its annual Home of Champions Rodeo, which has been running for 90 years and attracts major talent. The parade down Main Street runs not just once but three days in a row and features fire engines, old cars, farm equipment, floats, bands, bicycles, and dogs. Fireworks light up the night sky and pig races take place each evening.
All this is part of our 2020 Montana Family Multisport Adventure, which runs July 1 – 5 and is based in Red Lodge. Because this is an adventure vacation, we add in horseback riding, a UTV ride to see wild horses in the Prior Mountains, hiking, and river rafting.
But it is the kids themselves that make our family vacations so special. Kids join a new group and immediately know how to play together and have fun. They take just as much pleasure scrambling for candy in the parade as they do rafting down the Stillwater river. With everything taking place under the watchful eyes of our guides, that means adults can relax and have fun too.
