Southwest Parks Hiking Adventure

April 11 - 17, 2027 $4,300 Hiking, National Parks

Connect with the mystery and mysticism of southern Utah in this fantastic and wild landscape of sand, stone and sky. Perhaps nowhere else in the Southwest can compete with southern Utah when it comes to the sheer number of geological works of artLovely Planet

Some places don’t just impress you—they stay with you. Hiking through Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon is a journey into vast silence, sculpted stone, and perspective-shifting beauty. Each day brings a new kind of wonder: sunrise light spilling into red rock amphitheaters, narrow canyon walls glowing with color, and sweeping overlooks that make the world feel bigger—and your worries smaller. This adventure isn’t about checking parks off a list; it’s about slowing down, moving through these iconic landscapes on foot, and sharing unforgettable moments with fellow hikers who feel just as inspired to be there as you do.

This was my first Zephyr trip and I was impressed by the level of flexibility and preparation that went into the experience. The trip leaders were amazing from start to finish.

The Hiking

This Southwest adventure offers diverse hikes for every pace and skill level. Choose from short walks or challenging routes, exploring at your own pace with comfort and confidence.

In Zion, trails like the Watchman Trail range from gentle strolls to rewarding climbs, while Bryce Canyon offers hoodoo walks and scenic rim trails. As the journey continues through Page and into the Grand Canyon, the terrain shifts from serene rim paths to more demanding descents and climbs, each offering a new perspective of the vast landscape. With every step, you can move at your own pace while soaking in the Southwest’s unforgettable beauty, from winding river canyons and desert mesas to towering cliffs and vibrant rock formations.

An amazing mix of National parks and hikes made this a truly memorable trip for me. The trails chosen in the national parks were excellent and breathtaking.”

The Towns

This Southwest Parks adventure leads us through three unforgettable destinations, each serving as a gateway to some of America’s most spectacular landscapes. We begin at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, where breathtaking viewpoints and the legendary Rim Trail converge. From a geology talk at Yavapai Museum to a sunset dinner at the iconic El Tovar, the Canyon sets the tone for the adventure ahead, and for the truly bold, a descent down the South Kaibab Trail toward Ooh Ah Point reveals just how vast and ancient this landscape truly is.

Bryce Canyon City offers easy access to Bryce Canyon National Park’s otherworldly hoodoos and scenic rim drives, while also providing the small-town charm of classic diners and quiet evenings under the stars. We’ll chase a sunrise hike on the Queen’s Garden and Navajo Loop Trail, winding through towering hoodoos as the morning light turns them gold, one of the most magical moments of the entire trip. With its welcoming atmosphere and close connection to the park, Bryce Canyon City makes it easy to experience the magic of this unique landscape at your own pace.

No Southwest Parks adventure would be complete without a final chapter in Springdale, Utah, where striking red rock backdrops frame walkable streets filled with cafés, galleries, and local outfitters. From a stroll along the Pa’rus Trail to a full day in Zion, whether wading the Virgin River Narrows or cooling off at the Emerald Pools, this is where the journey reaches its breathtaking conclusion. These towns provide more than just a place to stay. They’re vibrant, welcoming communities that enhance the beauty and adventure of the parks they border.

The Hotels & Restaurants

Throughout the trip, we’ll stay in comfortable accommodations chosen for their prime locations, warm hospitality, and connection to the surrounding landscapes. We’ll stay close to the parks for maximum trail time and a relaxing retreat at day’s end. Rooms are well-appointed with everything you need for a restful night.

The cuisine on this adventure highlights the flavors and character of the Southwest, with hearty trail lunches enjoyed in the heart of the parks and satisfying dinners that bring each day to a close. Along the journey, you’ll enjoy a mix of casual eateries and refined dining, each highlighting regional specialties with fresh, flavorful ingredients. Enjoy everything from classic American comfort food to inventive, locally inspired dishes, all crafted to nourish and delight after a day on the trails. From post-hike drinks to dinners with stunning views, each meal fuels your adventure and strengthens your connection to the landscape. Sharing these meals together adds another layer of camaraderie, making the dining experiences just as memorable as the adventures themselves.

Hiking Distance: 1.5 miles or 2.5 miles

DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, a gentle morning leg-stretcher on the Little America Walking Trail eases us into the day before we set out for the Grand Canyon. Arriving at the South Rim by midday, we'll grab lunch on our own in the village and have the option to join a geology talk at Yavapai Museum — a fascinating primer on just how this otherworldly landscape came to be. The afternoon is ours to explore the legendary Rim Trail at our own pace, with jaw-dropping views around every bend. We'll check into Maswik Lodge before walking over to the iconic El Tovar for a dinner reservation that feels like a fitting reward for the day's adventures.

Hiking Distance: up to 7.9 miles

DAY 3

An early breakfast at the Maswik Food Court fuels us for one last morning at the Grand Canyon, where we'll shuttle to the South Kaibab Trail for a final descent into that ancient landscape — or stick to the Rim Trail for one last look before hitting the road. We head northeast with a lunch stop at the Cameron Outpost, a charming trading post en route to one of the Southwest's most photographed landmarks: Horseshoe Bend, where the Colorado River curves dramatically far below. After checking into our hotel in Page, the afternoon is free to wander over to Grand Canyon Brewing & Distillery for drinks and games before gathering for a Native American dinner show at the Red Heritage Center — a memorable and fitting way to close out our time in canyon country.

Morning Hiking Distances: 1.8 or 3 miles, maximum 1,181 ft elevation gain
Evening Hiking Distance: 1.5 miles, 137 ft elevation gain

DAY 4

We start the day with an early breakfast before a gentle two-mile stroll along the Page Rimview Trail — a flat, scenic warm-up with sweeping views to shake off the morning. Then it's on to one of the Southwest's most extraordinary natural wonders: Antelope Canyon, where narrow sandstone walls glow with swirling bands of color in the morning light. A lunch stop in the charming town of Kanab breaks up the drive before we continue on to Bryce Canyon National Park, arriving in time for a hike through the Swamp Canyon Trail and a first glimpse of the park's signature hoodoos from Yovimpa Point. Dinner at Bryce Canyon Pines sets the evening off perfectly — and we'll time our return just right to catch the sunset at Sunset Point, where the fading light turns the canyon into something truly unforgettable.

Morning Hiking Distance: 2 miles
Afternoon Bryce Hiking Distances: 2.4 or 4.4 miles, maximum 859 ft elevation gain

DAY 5

An early breakfast sets us up for the highlight of our Bryce Canyon stay -  a sunrise hike on the Queen's Garden and Navajo Loop Trail, where the morning light ignites the hoodoos in shades of amber and rose. It's a magical send-off before we check out and wind our way west toward Zion National Park. A short stop at Many Pools offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path hike before we roll into Springdale for lunch. The afternoon unfolds at a leisurely pace with a walk along the Pa'rus Trail to the Human History Museum, where the story of Zion's people and landscape comes to life. The evening is yours to explore Springdale's welcoming streets and find your own favorite spot for dinner in this charming gateway town.

Morning Hiking Distance: 3 miles, 625 ft elevation gain
Afternoon Zion Hiking Distances: 2.6 or 5.2 miles

DAY 6

Our biggest day in Zion starts with breakfast at Porter's before catching the Springdale bus to connect with the Zion shuttle for a full day on the trails. With a packed trail lunch in hand, the day is wide open! Wade deep into the Virgin River Narrows for one of the most unique hiking experiences in the American West, or explore the Riverside Walk and cool off at the Emerald Pools. The park delivers around every corner, and with a whole day to roam, there's no need to rush. Back in Springdale, we'll regroup with an optional happy hour at Cowboys & Angels before heading across the street to Oscar's Cafe for a well-earned dinner to celebrate our last full day in the parks.

Hiking Distances: up to 7 miles round trip, maximum 205 ft elevation gain OR 2 miles round trip + 2.9 miles round trip

DAY 7

We close out our Southwest adventure the way it should end — on the trail. After a final breakfast at Porter's, we catch the Springdale bus for one last morning in Zion, hiking the Watchman Trail as the canyon wakes up around us. It's a fitting farewell to a week spent among some of America's most breathtaking landscapes. By midday, we check out and head west to Las Vegas, arriving at the airport by early afternoon — tired in the best possible way, and full of memories that will last long after the red rock dust has settled.

Weather

In mid-April, you can expect a wide range of weather conditions. Zion offers mild, spring-like days (65–75 °F) that are perfect for hiking, with cooler nights (40–45 °F), so bring layers. Bryce Canyon, at a higher elevation, has sunny days in the 50s–60s °F that make the hoodoos glow, but nights can be much colder, dropping to 25–32 °F. The Grand Canyon’s South Rim is in between, with crisp daytime highs in the 50s °F and chilly nights in the 20s–30s °F. Spring weather can change quickly, so pack for all conditions: a raincoat, extra layers, and a sun hat.

Extending Your Stay

There is still plenty to explore after our Southwest Parks adventure ends in Las Vegas! We recommend renting a car and extending your stay to experience everything this iconic city and the surrounding region has to offer. Spend a day or two taking in the energy of the Strip, catching a world-class show, or indulging in some of the best dining and entertainment in the country. For those eager to get back into nature, the surrounding desert delivers — Red Rock Canyon is just 30 minutes from the city and offers stunning scenery and excellent hiking, while Valley of Fire State Park, about an hour out, features dramatic red sandstone formations and ancient petroglyphs. Adventure seekers can also make the short drive to Lake Mead for boating, kayaking, or simply soaking in the vast desert reservoir landscape. Whether you're looking to linger on the Strip or lose yourself in the Mojave, Las Vegas makes for a spectacular final chapter to an unforgettable journey.
