“We are considered Mexico’s Premiere Adventure Guest Ranch, offering National Park-like scenery and world-class, truly unique horseback riding, canyon hiking, nature and much more!”
YOUR MEXICO RANCH HOSTS
Join us as we explore the amazing Sonoran desert in Northern Mexico on a 30,000-acre ranch, just a private transfer away from Tucson’s international airport. We have rented out all the casitas on the ranch for an exclusive Zephyr Adventures’ experience full of hiking, other activities, great food, beautiful vistas, and outstanding relaxation.
Activities
We’ll have guided two to five-hour hikes on the ranch’s 30,000 acres to places with such names as El Pinito Mountain, The Badlands, Cajon Aguaje, El Cajon de la Catedral, Las Palmas River Bed, Los Almireces Riparian Riverbed, El Cajon Canyon, Bavispe River, Cajon El Caricito, and El Palmarito. We can add in stops at pictographs or ancient dwellings. The working cattle ranch offers daily horseback rides, which will be the highlight of your trip if you are into riding or at least an amazing experience you an choose to do a few times. There are caves to explore and canyons to do a little canyoneering for those interested. We can jump in a 4×4 jeep and even mountain bike. If you a watcher of birds, spring is a fantastic time to view those local to the area and those just passing through. You can even learn to make tortillas or guacamole from the authentic local chef or learn to throw a lasso from the ranch’s vaqueros. There is so much to do, we’ll need to make choices, which should include time for star gazing at night (you have probably never seen stars like these), stories around the campfire, and taking a snooze on the veranda during the day. All activities are optional, are included, and can be adapted to your ability level.
The Ranch
The ranch lies at the base of the Sierra Madre mountain chain at the meeting of the Sonoran and Chihuahua deserts. There are rocky crags, deep canyons, rivers, and cactus. Birds and various animal species abound. You will be staying the entire week inside the 30,000 acres of pristine, remote, serene, and protected wilderness. This is likely having an amazing national park at your fingertips with no visitors other than our group.
But don’t forget the comforts of staying at this working ranch, exclusively ours for the week. Our private chef will cook three meals per day, with much of the food of true Mexican variety. Eating restrictions can be accommodated. We stay in the ranch’s five one, two, or three-bedroom casitas, which are bright with natural light, well-appointed, very spacious, with comfortable queen and full size beds. They also offer terrific window views, have bathrooms with shower, hot water, plenty of off-grid solar electricity, comfortable porches, and a great deal of quiet and privacy.. We use the main Rancho for our dining and group socializing.
Getting There
Getting to the ranch is relatively simple. Our group will meet the first morning of the tour in Tucson for a private shuttle to the ranch. The ranch lies off main Highway 11 in Mexico, which is a safe and well-used road. We then have to rough it over the dirt road of the ranch to get to the main ranch headquarters. On our last day, we will repeat the trip and return via private shuttle to Tucson.
All Inclusive
Everything is included once you get to Tucson for our shuttle pickup. The vacation includes five nights lodging, meals, activities, professional ranch staff, and a Zephyr host. We even include tips to the ranch staff.
Whatever your motivation, you will not make a wrong decision by joining us on this truly unique experience, so close to the US border yet so different from our lives at home.

Day 1
We meet at 9:00 AM in Tucson at the airport or a nearby hotel for our private shuttle to the ranch. While most of the drive is on a modern highway, the final hour or so from the ranch gate to headquarters is on a sometimes bumpy dirt road. It is this that gets us away from civilization and off the grid. We'll arrive around 3:00 PM with time for an introduction to the ranch, a short hike, our first dinner from our private Mexican chef, and perhaps an evening campfire and star gazing.
Days 2 - 5
Each day we will meet with our ranch staff to plan the day, based on weather and your interests. Our options include hiking, horseback riding, Jeep drives, cave explorations, and mountain biking. We can relax with cooking classes, visits to pictographs, and snoozes on the veranda. All meals are included and dietary restrictions can be accommodated. In the evenings we'll gather for games, campfire stories, and star gazing.
Day 6
This is a transfer day, with an early morning departure from the ranch. Building in time to cross the border, we expect an arrival at Tucson airport no later than 2:00 PM. You can choose to fly out that afternoon or extend your stay in Arizona.

MEXICO RANCH VACATION
We spend all five nights at a private 30,000-acre ranch in the northern Sonoran state of Mexico. The ranch is huge, beautiful, isolated, and exclusively for our use except for working ranch hands. We have five one, two, and three-bedroom casitas, each with a bathroom with shower. Couples will be assured their own bedroom but will likely be sharing a casita with other Zephyr travelers. Solo travelers can choose to pay a single supplement to get their own bedroom (but will still be sharing a casita) or we will find another solo traveler of the same gender with whom you can share a room.

Difficulty Level
This trip is suitable for all ability levels, with the caveat that it is an active vacation. We will be hiking for sure and you have the option to ride horses or mountain bikes. However, we can adapt distances to ability levels and interests.
Changes to Your Itinerary
Our actual itinerary each day is fluid. What is on offer will also depend on the ranch and its staffing. Our private ranch has been in business for over a decade, so we have every confidence your vacation will be outstanding.
