Denmark & Scandinavian Beer
Denmark is one of Europe’s most exciting and innovative beer destinations!
• Home to legendary breweries like Carlsberg, as well as world-renowned modern craft pioneers and countless small independent breweries
• Denmark combines centuries-old brewing traditions with one of the most creative and experimental craft beer scenes in the world, including barrel-aging, wild fermentation, Nordic ingredients, farmhouse ales, and creative collaborations
• More than 250 breweries and microbreweries spread across Denmark, giving the country one of the highest brewery-per-capita rates in the world
• Denmark’s expansive cycling culture, coastal landscapes, Viking history, and relaxed hygge lifestyle make it the perfect destination for any beer lover
We will visit breweries, brewpubs, taprooms, and even a national beer festival, where we will spend time getting our brewing questions answered by pro brewers and tasting our way across the country.
Biking & Walking Through Scandinavia
In between sampling exceptional Scandinavian beer, we’ll spend our days cycling scenic coastal routes, exploring historic cities on foot, and experiencing Denmark’s famous bike culture firsthand. We’ll ride through the scenic coastal countryside of northern Jutland, cycle the peaceful Salling Natursti rail trail, explore vibrant Copenhagen by bike, stroll through the lively streets of Århus and Malmö, and sail the waters of Roskilde Fjord on a historically accurate recreation of a Viking boat.
The walking and biking on this trip is moderate, with mostly flat cycling routes and relaxed city walks, designed to appeal to most travelers looking for an active vacation.

Day 1
Welcome to Denmark! We’ll meet this morning in Aalborg before heading west toward Denmark’s rugged North Sea coastline and the beautiful Limfjorden region. Our first ride follows part of Denmark’s famous National Cycle Route through quiet countryside, fishing villages, and coastal landscapes as we bike from Vester Thorup toward Thisted Bryghus. Founded in 1902, Thisted Bryghus has become one of Denmark’s most respected breweries and is special for its award-winning, innovative, and locally rooted brewing, specifically its pioneering organic beers, unique ingredients like bog myrtle, and traditional Limfjords Porter. It was also named Danish Brewery of the Year multiple times! We’ll enjoy lunch, beer tastings, and time with the brewer before transferring to Nykøbing Mors and checking into our hotel. Tonight, we’ll head to Fjord Bryggeri og Destilleri for a private brewery tour, tasting, and dinner overlooking the beautiful Limfjord waters.
Estimated Activity: Bike 25–30 miles | ~600–900 ft elevation gain
Day 2
After breakfast, we’ll continue exploring the Limfjorden region with a scenic ride along the Salling Natursti, a converted railway trail known for flat riding and peaceful Danish countryside views. Today’s route takes us through farmland, forests, and tiny villages before arriving at Hancock Bryggerierne, one of Denmark’s most legendary breweries. Founded in 1876, Hancock is beloved by Danish beer fans for staying true to old-school methods and exclusively brewing with Danish malt. We’ll enjoy lunch, tastings, and a brewery visit before transferring to Viborg, one of Denmark’s oldest towns and a former Viking capital. Tonight’s dinner is at Rockabilly Brew, a small-scale craft brewery started by a former homebrewer in the heart of the medieval city center. It will be a fun night of craft beer, comfort food, and throwback rockabilly music.
Estimated Activity: Bike 27–30 miles | ~300–500 ft elevation gain
Day 3
This morning, we travel to Århus, Denmark’s energetic second-largest city and one of Scandinavia’s most exciting culinary and craft beer destinations. Our first stop is Aarhus Bryghus, an independent, family-run microbrewery. They have a team of 6 full-time employees who have more than 100 years of experience, and their motto is “Beer for pleasure – beer for sharing." After lunch and tastings, we’ll explore Aarhus on foot during a guided city walk through canals, colorful neighborhoods, and lively harbor areas before ending at the famous Aarhus Letter Sign overlooking the waterfront. Later this afternoon, we’ll visit Hantwerk, a brewery and gastropub known for creative brewing techniques and excellent beer pairings. The evening is yours to explore Aarhus’ thriving food and beer scene, whether that means finding cozy beer bars, waterfront restaurants, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of Denmark’s coolest small city.
Estimated Activity: Walk 2–3 miles | minimal elevation gain
Day 4
After breakfast, we make our way across Denmark with a scenic ferry ride from Århus to Sjællands Odde, enjoying views across the Kattegat Sea before continuing into the Danish countryside. Our first beer stop of the day is Herslev Bryghus, a brewery celebrated for its farmhouse-style brewing philosophy and use of local ingredients grown directly on surrounding farmland. They even grow their own barley and rye for the beer! We will enjoy lunch, a brewery tour, and tastings while learning about Nordic brewing traditions deeply connected to the land and seasons. This afternoon, we arrive in Roskilde and climb aboard a historically accurate recreated Viking boat for a sail on Roskilde Fjord, where we’ll experience the same waterways once traveled by Viking ships over 1,000 years ago. Tonight’s dinner takes place at Roskilde's local brewpub Røde Port Bistro. After a great meal, we'll head to Copenhagen and check into Hotel Ottilia, located in a former Carlsberg Brewery building.
Estimated Activity: Walk 1–2 miles | minimal elevation gain
Day 5
Today, we experience Copenhagen the best way possible -- by bike. Copenhagen consistently ranks among the world’s top cycling cities, and today’s guided ride takes us past iconic landmarks including Rosenborg Castle, the colorful city center, harborfront neighborhoods, and the famous The Little Mermaid statue. We’ll stop for lunch and brewery visits at Bicycle Brewing, one of the city's smallest and coziest nano-breweries. They brew all their beer on-site in 200-liter batches, making them one of the smallest commercial breweries in the country! Later this afternoon, we’ll enjoy a unique insider experience visiting the home of Yannick’s local homebrewer friend Allan for casual tastings, brewing conversation, and a glimpse into Denmark’s thriving homebrew scene. Dinner tonight is at Warpigs Brewpub, the famous collaboration between Mikkeller and American brewery 3 Floyds, serving bold beers and Texas-style barbecue in the heart of the Meatpacking District.
Estimated Activity: Bike 8–12 miles | ~100–200 ft elevation gain
Day 6
This morning, we will have the unique opportunity to visit the Carlsberg Brewery's Research & Development Department and Pilot Brewery for a special behind-the-scenes tour with their R&D Brewer Zoran. Carlsberg has played an enormous role in brewing history and science, including developing the pure yeast strain propagation technique still used globally today. After the tour, we’ll attend the afternoon session of the annual Copenhagen Beer Festival, widely considered one of the world's premier craft beer festivals. Here you can explore Denmark's top craft breweries, sample rare and experimental beers, and meet brewers and beer lovers from across Denmark and beyond. Tonight is free for you to continue exploring Copenhagen’s world-famous beer scene or simply relax after an unforgettable day of local beers and brewing.
Estimated Activity: Walk 2–4 miles | Minimal elevation gain
Day 7
Today, we cross the impressive Øresund Bridge into Malmö, Sweden’s creative southern city known for sustainability, modern architecture, and a fast-growing craft beer culture. We’ll enjoy a walking tour through Malmö’s canals, squares, and historic streets, including a beer stop at Malmö Brewing Co, Sweden's largest brewpub, featuring 42 taps of in-house and curated craft beers in a historic former cocoa factory. After, we'll continue to Hyllie Bryggeri and Stormgatan Bistro & Taproom for lunch, a brewery tour, and tastings (of course!). Back in Denmark, we’ll stop at the internationally acclaimed Amager Bryghus, known worldwide for its bold IPAs, barrel-aged stouts, and collaborations with some of the best breweries on the planet. Tonight we celebrate the end of our Scandinavian beer adventure with a farewell dinner and beers at Madklubben in the historic Carlsberg Brew Hall. It’s the perfect final evening to raise a glass, swap stories, and toast new friendships built over great beer and unforgettable experiences.
