April 4 of next year marks the 20-year anniversary of the day I quit my desk job to start the world’s first inline skating tour company – which has now evolved to become Zephyr Adventures. And we are celebrating by adding five new tours to our 2017 schedule.
But I am also planning ahead for the next 20 years. My three year old daughter, Sydney, is busy learning how to rock climb, ride a bike, hike, and do all the other things necessary to give her the opportunity to be guiding tours in another two decades.
Sydney and I recently joined our Colorado Beer Multisport Adventure on the morning of a hike to Royal Arch in our hometown of Boulder. Sydney got a ride in my backpack but that didn’t stop her from making guide-like comments on the trip up, including:
“I think we are almost there!” (10 minutes into the hike)
“Everyone look at that big mountain!”
“We are going into a cave!” (As we went under a large rock)
Of course, Sydney is pretty strong willed already and I would never presume to set career expectations for her. My only hope is she finds a career as rewarding as mine as been. And just in case she does want to guide a few tours, at least I can prepare her!
I hope you enjoy these short videos of Sydney running with balloons and learning to bike in our hallway. I will be thinking of her when I guide our Sicily Biking Adventure next year.
Great job, Sydney!
Very cute! Sydney looks like guiding will come as naturally to her as to her Dad! 🙂 Hey, get her on a pony and she could be a barrel racer with those mad slalom skills she has already! She’s very careful not to bump those cones.
Adorable!!!
I adore your works and courage, your daughter is lucky to have such Daddy as you are.I love adventures alot, I wish I could be opportune some day.well done for your good work.
