“I don’t see the desert as barren at all; I see it as full and ripe. It doesn’t need to be flattered with rain. It certainly needs rain, but it does with what it has, and creates amazing beauty.” – Joy Harjo

When you think of the iconic American Southwest, an image of a desert filled with large cacti with upstretched arms may come to mind. More specifically, you are most likely thinking of a Saguaro cactus, found solely in the Sonoran Desert, the state symbol of Arizona and a universally recognized image of the Southwest. The cacti aren’t the only unique and intriguing features of the desert. You’ll also discover scores of other unique flora and fauna as the Sonoran Desert is known to be one of the most biodiverse deserts in North America.

On this tour, we’ll spend 5-days exploring the Tuscon area by foot and by skate, including various aspects of the Sonoran Desert. Tucson is now circled by a well-maintained, paved network of trails called The Loop that is perfect for inline skating – many following winding dry riverbeds with majestic mountain backdrops. Our hikes will have us exploring several spectacular canyons, taking in the almost other worldly desert landscape, with options to get high above the city for spectacular views.

Daily Itinerary

DAY 1: Skating We meet at the Tucson airport after lunch and shuttle to our hotel to check in. Or if you have arrived early, you can meet us in the hotel lobby, dressed ready to skate. After quick introductions, we’ll strap on our skates and head out for the Cañada del Oro Path, which offers underpasses whenever it encounters a road and miles of smooth paved trail alongside its namesake waterway. After, we’ll reconvene for a fun, welcome dinner at the nation’s oldest Mexican restaurant. …SEE FULL ITINERARY
