Work for Us - Sonoma Vineyard Walking Guides

We have recently recruited several guides in Sonoma County to lead our one-day and three-day Vineyard Walks.  Depending on interest from the public for these walks, we might hire additional guides in the next six months.  If you are interested to work for us, please read the following to make sure the job suits your desires and skills and then fill out the application below.

Qualifications:

  • Positive, outgoing, and friendly personality with the ability to interact with all types of people. This is our most important criteria.
  • Good physical fitness that will allow you to lead moderate hikes and keep up with our more active customers.
  • Excellent knowledge of wine, winemaking, and grapegrowing practices.  The walks take place in vineyards and so familiarity with the farming side of wine is important. We will provide some training in this so a good general background in win can be sufficient. An interest in wine is not enough for this job.
  • Flexibility of schedule that allows for running day hikes while making a living elsewhere (self-employed and retirees are good candidates).
  • Motivated by having fun and interacting with people rather than making money. Guides will not get rich by guiding.
  • Based in Sonoma County, preferably near Santa Rosa or Healdsburg where most of our walks take place.

  • Guiding Duties: Guides are responsible for meeting our customers at a designated vineyard, leading them on a walk, and telling them about the local area and grapegrowing practices. Guides must be familiar with each vineyard we use and able to represent the associated winery.

    What we Offer:
We pay $50 for a morning walk, $75 for a morning walk including lunch, and $100 for a full day of two walks and lunch.  Guides are part-time contractors and do not receive other benefits.

    Training:
We provide but cannot pay you for training.  Training consists of initial walks at each vineyard, giving you the opportunity to learn from one of the winery staff or one of our experienced guides.  Depending on your knowledge of grapegrowing and the area, you might require one or two walks at each vineyard. In addition, guides should become first aid and CPR certified.

    Application:
If you believe you have the right qualifications and motivation to become a Zephyr part-time guide, please complete our online application below.
