We define trekking as "multiday hikes without
carrying your own gear". Our trekking tours allow you to reach
incredible places but not be
burdened with 50-pound packs trying to get there. The means of moving
our gear varies by location. In Peru and on Mount Kilimanjaro, we
have local porters. In Yellowstone we use horses. In Tibet, we round up
yaks from the nearby villages. (Well, we hire the local villagers to
round up yaks.) In Patagonia we use Zodiac boats. All our treks involved luxury camping.
Our hiking travel vacations, by contrast, consist of a series of day hikes. In 2012 we have a Hike, Bike, & Beer tour in both Yellowstone and Colorado, a Hike, Bike, & Wine in Spain, and a Hike, Wine, and Safari in South Africa.
On both our trekking tours and hiking tour vacations, you carry only what you need for the day: snacks, water, and extra clothing. On treks we generally sleep in tents (in Patagonia we use mountain refugios) but this is luxury camping. Our staff sets up our tents, cooks delicious meals for us, and cleans up afterwards. On our hiking tours and generally on the first and last night of our trekking tours we use excellent local hotels.
We've picked the best places in the world for our Trekking & Hiking Adventure vacations. You can't go wrong no matter which you choose. And if our dates don't work for you, consider our Private Trek option for both Tibet and Peru.
