cross contry skiing in Yellowstone

Yellowstone Winter Itinerary

During the days, we'll explore the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem via cross-country ski and snowshoe. There will be plenty of time to relax, ice-skate, soak in natural hot spring pools, and eat delicious meals in between our daily activities, which are all optional and self-paced. In addition, our February date starts the night of the full moon, an awesome site over the snow-covered fields and shooting geysers.

Day 1: You'll arrive in Big Sky Country via Bozeman, Montana and we'll immediately shuttle to Bohart Ranch to ski or snowshoe. That afternoon we continue to Gardiner, Montana - gateway to Yellowstone - where we check into our hotel and have dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: We’ll travel directly into Yellowstone National Park and the Park Headquarters at Mammoth. Here we’ll board our snow coach to Old Faithful. Upon our arrival at the Snow Lodge Cabins at Old Faithful, we’ll check in and you will be on your own for lunch. We’ll then ski or snowshoe (your choice) the Upper Geyser Basin before dinner. This evening, we’ll explore the trails via moonlight if you have the energy!

Day 3: This is a great day to explore our new surroundings via cross-country ski or snowshoe. Our day starts with a snow coach shuttle from the Snow Lodge and towards the Continental Divide. Some may choose to start skiing before we reach the divide to shorten the return distance while others will go from the top for a longer route option on this day. All of us will then ski or snowshoe back to the Snow Lodge Cabins. We’ll all eat lunch on the trail on this day. Once we return to our cabins, it is time to relax, ice skate or you may choose to ski or snowshoe on one of the many trails that start at the lodge.

Day 4: This morning, we’ll once again take a snow coach, this time to Biscuit Basin. Those who are looking for more skiing will ski to Fairy Falls and then back to the lodge. If you’re interested in skiing or snowshoeing a shorter distance, you’ll ski back to the lodge via the Upper Geyser Basin past geothermal pools and geysers. After lunch, we’ll take a snow coach back to Mammoth and then shuttle to Chico Hot Springs, just north of Yellowstone.  Chico has a huge, outdoor natural hot springs pool that is a perfect place to soak our muscles after one of the finest dining experiences in Montana.

Day 5: We’ll have an optional morning walk along the Yellowstone River before departing for the airport in Bozeman on this final morning.
