Umbria Biking Adventure Itinerary

Day 1: We meet your flight at 11:00 AM at the Perugia Airport. There, we get acquainted with our bicycles and immediately start our first ride.  We'll bike through the flat Umbria Valley with stops in Torgiano (and its wine museum) and Deruta (with is ceramics factories) on our way to our first hotel in Spello. Our wonderful hotel is at the top of Spello, which will tire your legs but please your soul when you see the fantastic views you have earned.

Day 2: Our first stop of the morning is a tour of a small, family-run olive mill where we finish by tasting the delicious oil on toasted bread. Then, we begin bicycling to the famous town of Assisi, home of Saint Francis. Assisi boasts much more than this storied history and is a perfect stop for lunch and a little wandering. After lunch we cycle to the Arnoldo Caprai Winery, where we have a chance to taste the Umbrian wines, especially the famous Brunello. We shuttle (or ride) back to our hotel from the winery. After dinner, we enjoy an evening guided walk through the streets of Spello.

Day 3: We cycle through the flat valley floor to our next town, Spoleto. Those wishing a little more mileage (and a few hills) can choose to do extension loops that have a bit more altitude gain: to the wine town of Montefalco with its beautiful views of the valley and/or the olive oil town Trevi, approached via a famous s-curve road lined with olive trees. In the afternoon, we enjoy an Italian cooking class in our hotel's industrial kitchen and eat for dinner what we have helped prepare.

Day 4: We have three loop rides out and back from Spoleto.  You can choose your own distance, from a short morning ride to an all-day excursion.  Today is a perfect day to shop at a local store, purchase groceries (wine, cheese, bread, olives, etc) and have a picnic on the side of the road. There is nothing more Italian! You'll have time to shop in Spoleto in the afternoon, followed by a walking tour of Spoleto's ancient Roman and post-Roman sites. We celebrate this evening with a banquet Italian meal.

Day 5: Our final day! We have a final morning ride and then return to our hotel to shower and check out. You have time to grab lunch on your own in Spoleto before we say good bye! We will arrange a group transfer to the airport for those departing this day (you will just pay the driver directly).
