Ann W. (About Zephyr Adventures)
Our many adventures have been great fun over the years. We greatly appreciate the ability to just have fun and not have to sweat the details of all the planning and bumps along the way.
Our Website is Being Updated
We’re delighted to announce our new website which has been many months in the planning. We hope that you enjoy the new site and that you find it easy and fun to navigate. We have added many new features we think you’ll enjoy!
Needless to say, over the next few days there are bound to be a few problems. We ask you to bear with us as we put the final touches to our new site. It’s only to be expected that one or two things don’t work quite as expected.
What do you think? How does it compare to our old site? What are your first impressions? Post your comments & feedback we would love to hear from you!
Mount Kilimanjaro Has New Sign on the Summit
Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, has a new sign at the summit:
That compares to the old one, which is pictured here with long-time Zephyr travelers Rick and Tony:
I have to admit: I sort of like the old, battered sign! It’s weather-beaten look seems appropriate for hard climb that gets one to the “roof of Africa”. However, I am sure the new sign will grow on me. I look forward to standing underneath it on our next tour to Tanzania when we’ll have the chance to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Create Your Own Private Group Adventures
Your Own Private Group Adventures
While meeting other participants is an important part of our tours, it can be just as rewarding to travel in the company of your family or friends. That is where our Private Group Adventures come in.
Private Adventures are the same adventure tours we always run but with a new date set up just for your group. Each year we run a handful of private trips for groups of various sorts. We require 10 participants at a minimum and if you reach 14 participants, each of your members will receive a 10% group discount off the normal price. Fair warning – it is not easy to get a group of 10 to all commit to the same vacation plans at the same time on the same budget. But just call or email us to begin the conversation and we’ll help you as much as we can.
Hosted Adventures are Private Adventures run by a business or organization that has its own customer base or membership. For example, a wine retailer might want to create a private tour for its customers to Chile and Argentina or a recipe website might want to create a private tour for its members to Provence. We can put together a proposal that allows one of your staff to travel with the group as the Tour Host.
Private Treks are an option if you wish to take one of our Trekking Adventures but the date doesn’t work for you. With a group as small as two, you can sign up for our Tibet Trek or any of a number of treks on various trails in Peru. We won’t send a Zephyr guide with you but our in-country partners will take care of you just like they do for our groups. See our Private Treks page for details and to reserve your trek. We even have separate websites covering our Tibet Treks and Peru Treks on the Inca Trail.
Self-Guided Tours in Italy are a very unique vacation idea where you select one of our pre-set biking, hiking, or driving tours in the beautiful provinces of Tuscany and Umbria. We set up your lodging, routes, equipment, and luggage transfer. We even provide you with a pre-programmed Portable Media Player so you’ll have your own virtual guide with you. You choose your own date and traveling companions and away you go! See our Self-Guided Italy Adventures website.
Kilimanjaro Private Trekking
Private Kilimanjaro Trek
The peak of Mt Kilimajaro is the highest point in on the African continent, and not surprisingly, a destination for many hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. What differentiates Kilimanjaro from the other notable mountains of the world, I.e., K2, Everest, etc… is the fact that you do not need any sort of special gear or expertise to climb its routes. In fact, assuming you’re in fair shape, you can likely summit the mountain in nothing more than a good pair of boots and a warm jacket (or two)!
Mt. Kilimajaro is located in Tanzania, Africa. A beautiful country full of
fascinating people, wilderness areas and extensive wildlife.
When Should I Go?
While Kilimanjaro is technically accessible year-round, we recommend the months of January, February and September, as you are likely to have the best weather. If you can’t make it during those times, June, July, August, October and December can also lend them selves well to an expedition on Kilimanjaro.
Kilimajaro Routes
There are seven different routes up Mt. Kilimanjaro. While we personally recommend the Lemosho Route, you can select the route of YOUR choosing on a private trek. If you have hiked the mountain before, or, if you feel a different route would provide you with a more appropriate experience, we can setup an alternate Trek for you. Keep in mind, however, that certain routes will require more from you physically than others. The Umbwe and Mweka being particularly challenging (but beautiful).
Kilimajaro Private Trek
If you want to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro, but you aren’t interested in our regular group tour, consider tackling the trek with some of your friends or family! If you can assemble a party of two people (minimum), you can schedule a private Kilimanjaro tour with us. You pick the dates and schedule the flights, and we will setup the trekking details for you. Our in-country personnel will see to it that you’re well taken care of and assisted in any capacity you may require.
