Spain Frequently Asked Questions
We will send you detailed information about the Adventure in a Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
The average high temperature in Bilbao on the northern coast is 76
degrees Fahrenheit in September, while it will be a bit warmer inland.
The coast does see rain year-round, so be prepared for showers.
However, as we move inland the chance of rain decreases and the weather
should be beautiful!
What is the best way to get to the tour location and
where do we meet?
We meet in the afternoon on Day 1 in Bilbao. There are no direct
flights to Bilbao from North America so those of you flying across the
Atlantic will need to connect in a major European hub such as London,
Frankfurt, or Paris. The tour also ends in Bilbao. We will send you
detailed information on getting to and from the tour location in your
Pre-Departure Packet upon booking.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in
the area?
Certainly spending one day either before or after the trip in Bilbao is
a good idea as there is much to do in this city. If you have more time,
we suggest renting a car in Bilbao and driving either north into the
French Basque country, northeast to the Pyrenees mountains which form
the border of France with Spain, or west along the Bay of Biscay.
Alternatively, you could take a flight to Barcelona or south to
Sevilla, both great cities. (The train is not as convenient to these
cities.)
Do I need to be a wine expert to enjoy this tour?
You definitely don't need to be a wine expert to enjoy this tour. In
fact, you don't even need any knowledge of wines at all. All you need
is an open mind, an ability to discern what you like and don't like,
and an adventurous spirit.
How much bicycling and hiking do we do?
Each biking and hiking day we have two or three different
route options. Our goal is to have short options everyone can complete
and long options that will tire out even avid athletes. This is not a
difficult tour but you will enjoy the tour more if you are physically
fit.
What ability level do I really need to be for this
tour?
This Adventure is rated Moderate.
There are a few hills on both the biking and hiking routes.
Do you have bicycles for rent?
Bicycle rental is included on this tour.
For what type of people would you recommend this trip?
If you have never been to Spain, this is your opportunity. Spain can be
a little more intimidating to even seasoned European travelers given
its great size and sometimes-difficult transportation network. Neither
are an issue on this tour as we stay in one localized area, do short
shuttles by van, and spend most of the time on horseback, a bicycle
seat, or our feet.
