Sonoma Skate Camp Frequently Asked Questions

We will send you detailed information about the Camp in a Pre-Departure Packet once you register.

What is the weather going to be like?
The average high temperature in May during our Camp is in the mid-70s and the nighttime low drops down to the mid 40s.  May in Sonoma County sees almost no rain so expect warm and sunny days for Camp.

Which time of the year is best to go there?
Both the spring and fall are good times to be in Sonoma. The summer can get too hot for skating.

What is the best way to get to the Camp and where do we meet?
We will meet you in the city of Sonoma at our hotel, if you are driving or arriving early. We will meet you at the airport in San Francisco if you are flying into the area. The airport meeting time is 12:30 and the Camp starts at 2:00 PM on Friday so you can fly in that morning and fly out on Sunday afternoon.

What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in the area?
See San Francisco! San Francisco is a fantastic city worth a few days of your time. Other things you might want to do in the area (involving a car) are driving up the northern Pacific coast, spending some time in the Sierra Nevada mountains, or visiting Yosemite National Park.

What ability level do I really need to be for this Camp?
The Sonoma Skate Camp is rated for Beginners . If you have never even tried on inline skates but want to learn, this is the Adventure for you. If you are already skating but working on mastering that heel brake or other techniques, this is the perfect way to do so.

For what type of people would you recommend this trip?
The Sonoma Skate Camp is designed to teach adults to inline skate. It is appropriate for people who have never tried the sport and for those trying to improve their beginner skills. Children are welcome in the company of adults. You do not need to be in great shape to attend this Camp. However, you should be in basic physical health. Some tests you should be able to pass: stand up without getting help; walk for several miles; fall on your hands and knees onto the grass from a bent knee standing position.

My spouse (friend, etc) wants to join me at Camp but doesn't want to participate in the instruction. Is that possible?
While we naturally encourage everyone to participate in our skating instruction, we do have a non-instruction option for spouses or friends who just won't put on skates. This option includes everything but the skating instruction (local transportation, alternative activities, lodging, meals, etc), as our goal is to include non-skating participants in the group fun.  There are other activities to do in Sonoma County so non-skaters will keep happy.

I live in the area. Can I just do the instruction?
Because participating as a group in dinners and non-skating activities is an important part of our Skate Camp offering, we don't have an instruction-only option. We do have an option for you to participate without breakfasts and lodging if you live or have friends in the area.
