Florida Frequently Asked Questions
We will send you detailed information about the Adventure in a
Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
In St. Petersburg near our tour location, the average high temperature
in December is 71 degrees Fahrenheit while the average low is 55. We
are not in the rainy season and, if it does rain, it tends to shower
and then leave. Sound perfect for skating in the winter? It
is!
Which time of the year is best to go there?
Any time from December through early April is an excellent time to be
in Florida as the temperatures for skating are usually excellent. We
prefer the beginning and end of this period since it is slightly
off-season.
What is the best way to get there and where do we meet?
We meet in the Tampa Airport on the first day of the trip and drop you
off there at the end. Tampa is easily accessible with usually-cheap
fares from many US cities. If you are driving, we suggest you leave
your car in long-term parking at the airport.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in
the area?
This is a tough question because there is so much to do. The St.
Petersburg area has three of the top 10 beaches in the country and
sites up and down the coast. It is also very easy to make the 3-4 hour
drive to Orlando and Disney World from Tampa. We suggest you rent a car
for your extra days because, once you do, the rest of Florida is within
easy reach.
What ability level do I really need to be for this
tour?
The Skate Camp is for Beginners and
Advanced
Beginners. This camp is recommended both for those who have
never tried skating and for skaters who have had
some instruction or experience but need additional help before moving
on to a full skate tour. The Florida Skate Tour is rated for Advanced Beginners and up. It
is perfect for just about any skill level. The skating is entirely
flat, on traffic-free paved trails, and yet the optional long routes
are long enough for advanced skaters.
For what type of people would you recommend this
Adventure?
Florida is perfect for anyone wanting a skating winter vacation.
Because northern states have done better creating paved trails, there
are not many places in the US where it is possible to skate long
distances on paths in a warm climate during the winter. The Camp is
also perfect for those wishing to take up skating or those graduating
from our Camp Rollerblade day camps or Hilton Head camp.
