Alaska Frequently Asked Questions

Alaska bike path We will send you detailed information about the Adventure in a Pre-Departure Packet once you register.

What is the weather going to be like?
Even in summer it is never that hot in Alaska. High temperatures in June are usually in the mid-60s with overnight lows in the upper 40s. Days are a mix of sunshine and clouds with some possibility of rain, so you should be prepared for any eventuality.

Which time of the year is best to go there?
June is fantastic because of the long daylight hours, with 19.5 hours of sunlight during our tour days. It is also the summer month with the least rain, making it the absolute best time to visit for a skate tour.

What is the best way to get there and where do we meet?
We meet in Anchorage in the morning on Day 1, so you will need to fly in the day before. We will suggest possible hotels in Anchorage where you can stay.

What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in the area?
If you would like to extend your vacation, we suggest you rent a car and visit Denali National Park and 20,320-foot Mount McKinley. You can easily spend several days doing this. If you have more time, you can visit one of the other cities in the area, go backpacking, take a river rafting trip, or do a bear-watching excursion.

What ability level do I really need to be for this tour?
The Alaska Skate Tour is rated for Intermediate skaters and better. The skating is mostly flat on traffic-free paved trails but there are a few hills that require decent braking ability.

For what type of people would you recommend this Adventure?
We expect this Alaska tour, the first time we run it, to appeal to many of our passionate skaters. The combination of skating, scenery, and adventure should be perfect for almost everyone.
