Wine, Food, and Cultural Tour of France, 2014

Experience one of the oldest and most famous tourist destinations in the world. France is known for its museums, castles, historic monuments, cultural centers, and of course gourmet wine and food.  We spend time in both Paris and the Bordeaux region of France during this 10-day trip.

The tour will include visiting museums, historical monuments, champagne houses, and wineries; meeting winery owners; and attending wine and food seminars. It will meet these training objectives:

  • Understand the principles of food and wine pairing.
  • Identify hard to-pair-foods and their reaction to wines.
  • Discuss cooking methods and their interaction with different wines.
  • Explore grape varietals and how they match with different foods.
  • Appreciate French wine, food and the culture of France.

Accommodations

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a detailed trip description? Yes, you can view it here.
  • Who are the leaders of this trip?  Joining the trip are Peter D’Souza, Megan and Julien Martel and Juliet Fox. Peter is an Associate Professor of Food and Beverage Management at UW-Stout.  Megan and Julien are our Paris-based guides.  Juliet is the Alumni Director at UW-Stout.
  • Is airfare included? We did not include airfare in the price of this trip, for several reasons.  First, these days, many people have frequent flier miles they prefer to use.  Second, our UW-Stout Alumni live all over the world and flight prices vary dramatically.  Third, many travelers will want to extend their vacation in Europe and booking your own flights allows you more flexibility.  We will include detailed arrival and departure information upon booking.
  • Where do we begin and end the trip?  We meet in Paris at Charles de Gaulle airport (airport code CDG) on the first day of the trip, August 11.  This means, if you are flying from the United States, you will need to depart on August 10.  We will provide a shuttle from the airport at 8:15 AM, so if you want to arrive in time to take this shuttle, please plan a flight that arrives no later than 7 AM to allow time to retrieve luggage and exit customs.  The trip ends on August 21.  We will provide a shuttle from our hotel to the airport early this morning, in time to catch a 10:30 AM or later flight back home.
  • What is your cancellation policy?  If you cancel your reservation with 46 days or more advance notice, you can apply all payments made to another Adventure in the same calendar year or the year following. If you cancel with 45 or fewer days advance notice you forfeit all payments made.
  • Do you recommend trip insurance?  Always! We highly recommend trip cancellation insurance to protect yourself against unforeseen circumstances. Every year there are unfortunate incidents with dozens of travelers that make it impossible for them to join our Adventures. Many of these people lose their trip and airline payments. Even if you do not think this will happen to you, it can! One company we recommend is MH Ross.  If you choose not to get travel insurance and know your payment is non-refundable, you are taking a risk!
